Are you deciding where to propose? If Buffalo holds a special place in your partner’s heart, it could be the perfect place. The area offers an amazing variety of romantic settings from architectural wonders to sunset beaches. As a Buffalo wedding photographer, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph couples in incredible places around the area. Check out my roundup of the best places to propose in Buffalo!
Where to Propose in Buffalo
Whether your partner is a nature lover or art nerd, you’re sure to find a meaningful place to propose on this list.
1. Letchworth State Park
Wondering where to propose with a view? Letchworth State Park has you covered. Known as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” it includes overlooks of a series of gorges. The most popular spot is understandably the view of the waterfall where the Genesee River pours over a cliffside. It’s absolutely gorges.
2. Beach along Lake Erie
Lake Erie has lots of scenic beaches along its shore. You can access great ones in Hamburg, Woodlawn, and Evangola. I absolutely love the way the colors reflect in the water at sunset. It’s movie-level romantic. Summer is a good time for a beach proposal because you can take joyful photos in the water. Evangola State Park has an especially beautiful beach with cool rock faces around it.
3. Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls used to be one of the most popular spots for elopements. If you’re considering where to propose with a cinematic backdrop, Niagara Falls is a good choice. Keep in mind that summer weekends can get kind of crowded around the falls. You might consider an early morning proposal here.
4. Bemus Point on Lake Chautauqua
Bemus Point is a little over an hour away from Buffalo. It’s a great option if you’re looking for where to propose on a day trip or weekend getaway. The town has cute waterfront restaurants, and the views are stunning.
5. Albright Knox Art Gallery
Is your partner more of a city person? The Albright Knox Art Gallery is an endless maze of classical architecture with an incredible modern expansion. Your photos will definitely be unique in this amazing setting. As with most big attractions, I would plan your proposal for a quieter time if possible.
6. Frank Lloyd Wright House
The Frank Lloyd Wright House is another Buffalo gem that the creatively inclined will enjoy. The grounds include beautiful gardens. The geometric exterior of the house adds lots of cool lines and fun elements to photos too.
7. Ellicottville
Ellicottville is another great place to propose on a day trip or weekend getaway. It’s about an hour south of Buffalo. Ellicottville looks like a town out of a Christmas movie. Surrounded by parks, ski resorts, and arboretums, it’s like a postcard in the winter time. There’s also a local brewery that’s popular if you want to celebrate your proposal with a nice drink.
8. Botanical Gardens
Wondering where to propose indoors? The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens are worth a look. Even in the depths of winter, the iconic greenhouse is a tropical paradise. Think colorful, lush flowers spilling over narrow, winding paths. And if you really love it, you can bring it full circle by getting married there. Check out this Halloween micro wedding for inspiration.
9. Knox Farms State Park
Knox Farms State Park is located on over 600 acres of land in East Aurora. You really get your pick of scenery here. The park includes everything from grasslands to woods and ponds. It’s beautiful year round. You could turn a hike or fancy picnic into a dreamy proposal.
10. Glen Falls in Williamsville
If you’re looking for more options for where to propose by a waterfall, consider Glen Falls in Williamsville. These falls aren’t as jaw dropping as Niagara or Letchworth, but they’re really beautiful and less crowded. I love the moody forest paths that wind around the park.
