Pressed and dried flowers have a certain magic. You know there’s a whole romantic story behind them. It makes sense that you’re wondering how to preserve wedding flowers! The good news is that there are plenty of simple ways to do it. I rounded up my favorite for you below.
How to Preserve Wedding Flowers: 4 Easy Methods
Each of these ways of preserving wedding flowers has its own charm. Consider which will make the most sense for the type of flowers you have and the ways you want to enjoy them in the years to come.
1. Press the flowers for a frame.
One of my personal favorite tips for how to preserve wedding flowers is to get them pressed in a frame. I took my own wedding bouquet to Francis Foliage in Orchard Park, New York. Their team offers so many options for pressing flowers in glass. Many come in picture frames with the option to include a wedding photo. Some options also include ornaments and candles.
Pressing flowers in a frame combines vintage appeal with color. You get a beautiful, one-of-a-kind art piece to hang on your wall. It’ll be an amazing conversation piece anytime you have someone over.
2. Get the flowers preserved in resin.
Recently, another method for how to preserve wedding flowers is gaining popularity: preserving flowers in resin. You can find lots of craftspeople on Etsy and other websites who can provide this service. Here’s how it works:
You send in your wedding flowers.
The artist pours a layer of resin into a mold.
They arrange your flowers on the resin.
They pour more resin over the top.
Once the resin is dry and hard, you’re left with a beautiful decorative piece. You can get your flowers made into paperweights, ornaments, coasters, catch-all dishes, ring trays, candle holders, and more.
Preserving flowers in resin is one of the best ways to maintain the flowers’ color. It’s kind of incredible how vibrant your florals stay once they’re preserved this way.
3. Dry your flowers at home.
As you explore how to preserve wedding flowers, you may decide you want to use multiple methods for the different flowers from your wedding day. I did this after my wedding. I got my own bouquet pressed in a frame then dried my bridesmaids bouquets to use as home decor.
DIY drying is simple. You hang a bouquet upside down for a few weeks until it’s thoroughly dried. The catch is that this works better for some types of flowers than others. Do a little research before you start to make sure this method makes sense for preserving your flowers.
4. Donate your flowers.
If you’re researching how to preserve wedding flowers before your big day, you might consider spreading the love by donating your flowers. Retirement homes and hospitals often accept flowers for common areas. When you go big on something perishable like flowers, it’s nice to know that as many people get to enjoy them as possible.
Some retirement homes will use flowers for activities, too. I had the honor of taking my sister’s wedding flowers to a local retirement home. This particular home told us that the residents liked to make their own arrangements. We took all of the extra flowers in buckets of water. That way the residents could get together and make bouquets for their rooms. It was such an easy thing for us to do, and it brought the residents a lot of joy.
