There’s something magical about getting married in a place you’ve known your whole life. Sarah and Matthew set out to find the perfect Cape Cod wedding venue in the town Sarah took her childhood vacations. They found their dream spot at the Chequessett Club. This rustic waterfront venue is a gem.
The Chequessett Club: A Cape Cod Wedding Venue
The Chequessett Club is a Cape Cod wedding venue that’s full of surprises. Before traveling there for Sarah and Matthew’s wedding, I looked at pictures of it on Google Images. They didn’t do this dreamy venue justice! I was pleasantly surprised by the spectacular location, elegant tent, and rustic vibe of the Boathouse. The staff was amazing, too! They were with us all day, assisting in any way possible.
If you’re looking for a venue that offers an indoor/outdoor experience, the Chequessett Club is a good choice. The Boathouse gives you a beautiful view of Wellfleet Harbor and a bit of security from fickle beachfront weather. Rental fees start at $6,000 for a full wedding. The venue has capacity for up to 165 people.
This Cape Cod wedding venue is located in Wellfleet on the Cape side of the peninsula. It’s just over two hours away from Boston.
A Meaningful Wedding Destination
I was so excited when Sarah and Matthew reached out to me about photographing their wedding. Sarah and I know each other from studying photography together at Syracuse. She said that she knew she wanted to hire me once she saw I’d become a wedding photographer, even planning a wedding in Cape Cod, MA.
Sarah and Matthew are sweet, down to earth people. They’re also really family-oriented. Matthew proposed to Sarah during a trip to his family’s home in the Catskills during Valentine’s weekend in 2022. They live in New York City, so we did their engagement photos at the Met!
Even though they have connections to other places, it was important to Sarah and Matthew to find a Cape Cod wedding venue. Sarah grew up going on family vacations in Cape Cod every summer. Once they started dating, Matthew joined Sarah on family trips. Needless to say, he fell in love with the area too. It helps that they’re both huge beach people.
As much as Sarah and Matthew love the beach, they didn’t necessarily want a beach themed wedding. Sarah described their vision to me this way: “An intimate and laid back party by the beach where we celebrate with all the people we love while enjoying amazing food and cocktails!”
Choosing such a beautiful Cape Cod wedding venue allowed Sarah and Matthew to focus on the atmosphere instead of decor. Sarah’s father contributed to the ceremony by creating a driftwood arch. Natural elements made their way into the reception. Sarah described it as “more rustic than beachy.” Mostly, they just stayed present. They really wanted to focus on being with their people and having fun.
Sarah and Matthew’s Sweet Celebration
Chequessett Club really was the perfect Cape Cod wedding venue for Sarah and Matthew. For their September wedding day, they hosted 90 guests. It still felt like an intimate party. There was so much love and laughter.
My sister Casey joined me as day of coordinator for this wedding. She managed all of the decor that Sarah DIYed. Casey also managed and assisted the florist, caterer, and band members. Sarah and Matthew had a keyboardist at the ceremony, a band at cocktail hour, and a DJ for the reception. Keeping it all running smoothly was no small feat, but Casey knocked it out of the park.
Sarah and Matthew’s sentimental sides emerged throughout the day. Matthew is a baker, so he gave Sarah a braided loaf of challah. He sent along an accompanying note that said, “May we be braided together in love.”
The couple spent the day surrounded by their closest family members and best friends from every stage of their lives. Their Chihuahua mix Brutus helped in the ceremony. At the reception, Sarah and Matthew danced one of the most beautiful choreographed dances I’ve seen to a Noah Kahan cover. It was one of those amazing wedding days I could hardly believe I got to be a part of.
